Gator and Wingnuts ride to the Mill Creek Farm
January 2 – Three (3) Gators (Rick, Wayne and Jacques) met at 8:30 at the Lawyer’s Offices at the corner of US19 and HWY52. The temperature was a bit cool at 43F and sunny. We then headed north on US19 to meet up with the Wingnuts at Hardees in Springhill. Ten (10) Wingnuts were there and we chatted for a while before heading out to the Mill Creek Farms. We headed north on US19 and turned right on RTE476 east. We then turned left on 491N to 41N and then on to 41/27N. We picked up another couple from the Wingnuts at the corner of HWY41 and 491. We are now thirteen (13) riders and co-riders on seven (7) trikes and two (2) motorcycles. We then took 26E to 235N and then on to 235A north arriving at the Mill Creek Farms in Alachua. The temperature had now reached its high of 55F. This is quite a unique place where hundreds of people visit and feed these retired horses. This Retirement Home for Horses gives lifetime care to horses seized by law enforcement; those rescued by the SPCA or Humane Societies; horses retired from government service such as police patrol, state or federal parks; horses used by handicapped riding programs; circus horses; those used in experiments or similar cases. So we spent some time visiting the horses and feed them carrots. We left the farm and returned to 235A south and turned left on HWY441 and stopped for lunch at the Conestogas restaurant in Alachua. Wow, what a place and what a burger. You will see by the pictures the size of the burgers they serve there. We then left the restaurant and headed to our respective homes via the same routes. Today we rode 265 miles. To view some of the photos Click Here.
Gators ride with Bill to Webster’s Flea Market
January 3 – Eight (8) Gators (Ray, Tom, Kayle, Wayne, Russ, Bill, Tracy and Jacques) met at Bill and Tracy’s home at 10 am to ride to Webster’s Flea Market. Again, the temperature is 43F, a bit on the cool side. In Bill’s distinct fashion, we meandered our way to Webster through secondary roads. Every first Sunday of the month, the Webster Flea Market is for motorcyclists looking for bargains for parts (new and used), motorcycle apparels, leather and sometimes junk. We spent some time checking out the vendors. Ray left on his own because he wanted to check out this BBQ he had seen on the way to Webster. The rest of us left a bit later and made our way to Bushnell where we stopped for lunch at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Following lunch, Russ headed straight to his home because he didn’t want to miss the football game. The rest of us made our way back, again meandering through back roads and arrived back in Hudson around 4:30 pm. The temperature reached a high of 48F. Today we rode 143 miles.
